How Barcode Scanners Communicate with Computers
The vast majority of barcode scanners connect via USB using Human Interface Device (HID) Keyboard Emulation. When a barcode is scanned, the device decodes the optical pattern and sends the characters to the active operating system input buffer exactly as if an operator typed them rapidly on a physical keyboard, followed by a carriage return (Enter key).
Configuring Prefix and Suffix Delimiters
For custom web POS applications, scan the configuration barcode in the user manual to append a tab or carriage return suffix. This triggers the web application's JavaScript keydown event listener to automatically submit the SKU and add the item to the active shopping cart.
