Thunderstorms Along the Rift Valley & Nairobi Hills
During Kenya's rainy seasons, lightning strikes within 500 meters of a perimeter fence can induce massive electrical voltage spikes onto outdoor copper Cat6 camera lines. Without dedicated in-line Ethernet Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) surge arrestors bonded to physical earth ground, the surge travels straight through the cable and fries all 16 ports on your network video recorder (NVR).
